Melba Darlene Daugherty Weaver
Melba Darlene Daugherty Weaver was born into this world on May 6th, 1927 and entered heaven on April 11th, 2018. She was born to Ira Mitchel Daugherty and Goldie Birdena Daugherty in Halls Summit, Kansas and shared her childhood with four brothers and a sister. Melba was longtime resident of Kansas living in Emporia, Sublette, Liberal and finally settling in Kismet, Kansas where she raised her five children and had many friends.
Melba was a woman with many diverse talents and interests. Her hobbies included playing in her monthly Canasta club, multiple crafts, crocheting, gardening and volunteering for both boys and girls scouting. She also held many interesting occupations which included managing a gun range, working in local grocery stores, the VFW, and United Van Lines.
Melba kept active in her twilight years and was quite popular at the retirement home with all the nurses and staff. They came to love her stories and she loved shocking them at times with her funny comments and humor. In her spare time, she continued working on crafts and was always making something special for her friends and relatives. She loved being useful.
Melba and her husband Jim Weaver raised five children; Norvan James, Nyleca Ann, Nane Mitchel, Nalynn Goldena, and Neola LaJene. As you can see by the names, she loved the letter N and was as creative with her children's names as she was in life. In addition to her five children, her legacy includes nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great, great, grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, James, and her beloved son Norvan.
Her family will gather to celebrate her life with a grave-side service at Kismet Cemetery on Saturday, April 21st at 10:00 AM. The service will be conducted by Pastor Neal Foster.
