Sadie Pearl Kiefer, daughter of Burt County pioneers, Cyrus and Susan Kieger. Born at Craig on Decemer 5, 1892, she came to Lyons with her family in 1901. On May 22, 1912, she married Walter Southwell.
She was active in the Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion Auxillary; a Gold Star mother, through the death of their son Orville, in 1941; and a Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxillary member, through the service of their son Elton, a German prisoner of war in World War II.
The observed their 60th wedding anniversay in 1972, just two days prior to Walter's death on May 24. She died January 4, 1974.
Their four children all graduated from Lyons High School: Vera, Orville, Dale and Elton.
