James Melvin Edmondson, 80, of Quitman passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Pavo, Ga. he was the son of James Coleman and Ada Bell Willis Edmondson. He was a farmer, a member of the Baptist Faith and a veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by two daughters; Kimberly Pafford of Quitman, Alice Carol (Pride) Williams of Quitman, four sons; James Kenneth Edmondson of Valdosta, Donald Stewart Edmondson of Frostproof, Fla., Scott (Traci) Edmondson of Quitman, Steve (Trish) Edmondson of Quitman, 18 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, two sisters; Joyce Jordan of Quitman, Faye Baggett of Clarksville, TN, two brothers; William Edmondson and Clarence Edmondson both of Quitman. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice Edmondson, three brothers; Earl Edmondson, Lewis Edmondson, Dennis Edmondson and one sister; Loyce Barrs.

Funeral services will be held Friday Oct. 21, at 2:00 PM in the Maxwell-Miller Chapel with Mr. Sonny Batts officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
