Lowell George Thornley - 1913-2010

POCATELLO - Ninety-six years and two months was the length of life of Lowell Thornley. But his integrity, work ethic, sense of humor and love of family will live forever as his legacy.

Lowell was born in Layton, Utah, on November 11, 1913.

He was married 65 years to his beautiful wife, Eleanor, who passed away in August 2009. Lowell and Eleanor began their life together in Preston, then moved to Aberdeen to farm and raise their four children, Scott (Jane), Jan (Cliff) Wheeler, Kyle (Leni), and Eric.

He was devoted to his children and grandchildren, and loved sports, especially those that his sons and grandchildren were involved in, and the Chicago Cubs. He served in his youth with the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II. He lived through the Depression and learned new trades and the invaluable traits of hard work, dedication and perseverance.
He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and loved his lifelong friendships with the wonderful people of Aberdeen. He was a horseman, a farmer, a carpenter, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. His family will be forever grateful for his tutelage, his quick wit and unconditional love and patience.

Thank you to the Gables Assisted Living facility of Pocatello for the exceptional and loving care for the past year, and to the Creekside Hospice for their care these past months.

We will dearly miss you, but we are at comfort knowing you are with Mom. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.
A visitation will be held today, (January 26,) from noon to 1 p.m. at the LDS Aberdeen Second Ward Chapel. Private family graveside services will follow at the Aberdeen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello.
