Arthur Lee Owens, 65 years, of Newport, MI passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 4:15 PM in Mercy Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born November 14, 1945 in Monroe, Art was the son of the late Isaac and Della (Young) Owens. Art attended Monroe High School and received an associate's degree in business management thru Ford Motor Company.

Art served his country honorably and proudly during the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4th Class in the United States Army, serving from January 10, 1963 to January 8, 1966. Art was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

On October 28, 2009 Art married his beloved wife, the former Cynthia M. Rush in Monroe.

Art worked as a floor inspector for Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant for 30 years. He retired in 1997.

Art was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1138 in Monroe, a Scout Master at Trinity Lutheran Church for Troup #502 for 12 years, coached children's bowling for 15years in Monroe and enjoyed; hunting, fishing, and collecting coins and stamps.

Art is survived by his beloved wife Cindy, 3 loving sons; Marc A. Rush of Lincoln Park, MI, Anthony I. Owens and Marvin E. Owens both of Newport, MI, 4 cherished grandchildren, 2 brothers; Isaac (Lynn) Owens Jr. of Monroe and Kenneth M. (Liz) Owens of Carleton, MI and a sister in law; Shirley Owens of Monroe. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy J. Owens.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating Art's life will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Alfred Whittaker, pastor of Victory Temple Church of God will officiate.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
