Clara P. Hartmann Knoke was born in a dwelling at Clark and Lake streets in Lake View. She was a descendant of two pioneer Chicago families, the Hartmanns and the Boldenwecks, and the widow of Herman C. Knoke, son of the founder of H. C. Knoke & Co., cereal millers in Chicago for 71 years. She was a member of St. Paul's House, the Ulrich Orphan home, Altenheim, and the Columbia Damen club. Clara was preceded in death by her two daughters.
