Hannah was the daughter of John and Letita Erwin. She was the
wife of Israel Israel.

Mrs. Israel's family where Quakers that came to America with William Penn. The family was highly respected (Women of the American Revolution, Elizabeth Fries Ellet, p. 166).


Israel was sailing on a sloop or packet ship from Philadelphia to visit his family in New Castle, DE. On deck of the ship he met Hanna. Israel visited the Erwin family becoming better acquainted and later offered the proposal of marriage which was accepted (Women of the American Revolution, Elizabeth Fries Ellet, p. 166).


Hanna has been described as having a fair complexion, blue eyes and dark hair and being devoted to her family and home
