Anna Mary "Sissie" Johnston Curtis, 94, lived a long and fruitful life due to her pioneer spirit and simple lifestyle.

She was born and raised in Owyhee County, as the daughter of Owyhee County Pioneers. She was born October 28, 1916 in Wilson, Idaho at the home of her parents, Charles A. Johnston and Mary Kelly Johnston. She was the fifth of eight children. She died peacefully on October 21, 2011 at a Homedale Care Center.

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00PM on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene (26515 Ustick Rd., Wilder). Graveside services will follow at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery.

She married Alfred H. Curtis on October 9, 1938. They made their first home in Melba where they farmed. They moved to another farm near Homedale in 1941, where they raised their family of four sons and one daughter. They resided in Homedale all of their life except for six years when they lived in Gardena.

Anna Mary was a very loving and supportive mother who also took the time to care for her nieces and nephews before her own children were born. She was known for her wholesome cooking and welcoming hospitality. She always had a delicious meal for anyone who came to help brand cattle, stack hay or hunt on the farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Evans, of Homedale; sons, Kelly (Scipia) of Banning, CA.; Craig (Sandy) of Nampa; Kent (Lori) of Homedale; and Rocky (Janel) of Vacaville, CA.; her sister, Bea Boston, of Boise, her brother, Calvin Johnston, of Wilson, Idaho; her granddaughters, Mindi (Ciaran) Hynes of Newberg, OR. and Dustie (Brett) Paynter of Wilder; grandson, Jeremy (Kailee) Evans of Fruitland, eight great-grandchildren, Aine, Emma, and Liam Hynes, Isabel Evans and baby sister, due to be born this week, Aspen, Brennen, and Maddy Paynter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna Mary's family would like to thank the staff of Owyhee Health and Rehab for the attentive and personalized care given to her during her brief stay.

The family would like you to help celebrate her last birthday by bringing a birthday card addressed to Anna Mary to the service to be shared with the family.
