Dr. James Leroy Henderson, Jr., 79, of Emerald Isle, passed away Wednesday October 19, 2011 at his home.
Dr. Henderson was the Founding President of Coastal Carolina Community College where he served from 1963 to 1988 and was a recipient of the I.E. Ready Award, past president of the NC Retired Government Employees Association. He also was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Seaside Masonic Lodge 429 AF&AM, a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He also was a founding member of St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church, member of First Citizens Bank Board of Directors, member of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Swansboro Rotary Club where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Henderson.
