Era Lorene Burns, 95, of Goldthwaite, Texas, died on Saturday, October 24, 2009, in a Goldthwaite nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Stanton with Rev. Daniel Armstrong, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Lamesa officiating and Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Stanton assisting. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery Stanton.

She was born on February 22, 1914, in Killeen, Texas and married Jesse Burns on February 15, 1936 in Wingate, Texas. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1981.

Jesse and Era moved to Stanton in 1940 where she was very active in the community. She helped Jesse in the White Auto Store they owned. During World War II, she taught school in Stanton. Era worked as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank. She started china painting in 1961 and taught china painting lessons in Stanton for many years.

Era was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as secretary and sang in the choir.

She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Sorority.

Survivors include one son, Bill Burns and wife, Pat of Goldthwaite; one sister, Codie Henson of Stanton; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lorene Barbee on November 3, 2007.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
