PASSING OF WILLIAM RESOR

Pioneer Citizen Who Resided Here All His Life.

The death of Mr. William Resor on Thursday evening, December 22, at the age of 72, has caused more than one old resident of Cincinnati to look back and realize that another link to the past has been severed.

Mr. Resor was born January 8, 1837 in this city. (On the 1850 US Census, there is a one word note, "twin" between the names of William and his sister, Sarah.) His mother, Mary Thew Burnet, was a member of one of the pioneer families, her father, Isaac Gouvenour Burnet being the first Mayor of Cincinnati for 14 years. Mr. Resor's father, William Resor, was born in Pennsylvania and came to this city when a young man. He became well known as one of the first citizens of Clifton, there being but two other families in that village when he and his family went there to live.

Mr. Resor was the oldest of three sons. He was educated at Harvard University and then went into business with his father in the firm of Wm. Resor & Co., stove manufacturers. At the age of 22 he married Isabella Livingston Brown.

He was formerly active in all municipal affairs and an ardent supporter of the founding of the Cincinnati Art Museum, College of Music, and Zoological Garden. He had also been an indefatigable traveler. On a trip around the world his wife was the first white woman to visit some of the Japanese villages.

He retired from active business about ten years ago after financial reversals. He leaves a widow and seven children.
