George worked for the city of Milwaukee Police Department and Fire Department. He served with the Fire Department from April 10, 1912 until he joined Police Department, serving in precinct #2, Milwaukee from September 2, 1914 to March 24, 1916. He returned to the Fire Department and remained there until his retirement on July 16, 1936. After his retirement George and Katherine moved to Hayward, Wisconsin, where George was a fishing guide. He was the guide for Louis Spray when Louis caught the world record muskie (5 feet, 3 1/2 inches long, weighing 69 pounds, 11 ounces) on October 20, 1949. George and Kate purchased "Callahan Lake Resort" Route 4, Hayward, Wisconsin and later sold the business. They moved down the street and stayed there until they moved to Blanchardville, Wis. due to the severe winters in Hayward. George died of a coronary occlusion due to coronary heart disease in Hayward. He had taken his grandson, Bob Tyler, to go muskie hunting. They stayed at Dun Rovin' in Hayward and it was there he died.
