Attorney, Son of Charles P. and Ellen (Anderson) Curtis. He married Anita Deidamia Grosvenor in 1917.

Richard was a partner in the Boston Law Firm Choate, Hall and Stewart, becoming a partner along with his brother Charles in 1932. He was a trustee of Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and a director of the New England Telephone Company.

He was a graduate of Groton School in 1912, received his BA from Harvard College in 1916 and his LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1921. He was a Lieutenant in the US Navy.

He was the director of the Fiduciary Trust Company and Fifty Associates, trustee of Boston Personal Property Trust, Vice President of the Museum of Fine Arts, a member of the corporation of Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and a member of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations.

Richard was also the chancellor of St. Paul's Cathedral, director of the Episcopal Church Foundation, member of the Department of Finance of the Diocesan Council, Trustees of Donations, Investment Committee of Diocesan Investment Trust, member of the Bishop and Trustees of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Massachusetts and President of the Cathedral Farm, Inc. He was also a member of the Tavern Club, Somerset Club, Brookline and Essex Country Club.
