Frank E. Hollingsworth, 91, New Philadelphia, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 16, 2003, following a lengthy illness.

A son of the late Brenton C. and Edna G. Harstine Hollingsworth, Frank was the valedictorian of the New Philadelphia High School class of l930, and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Denison University in l935. In September of l939, he married E. Mary Flory with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage before her death in the Spring of last year.

In l943, he enlisted in the United States Army and achieved the rank of 1st lieutenant before his honorable discharge in l946. He was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal, and, during his service, attended the 6th War Course at New York University becoming a graduate meteorologist. Professionally, Frank was a civil engineer and reservoir manager for the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District until l974, retiring after 35 years as assistant to the chief.

He is, however, most well-known and best-remembered in the Tuscarawas Valley as the New Philadelphia/Dover Co-operative Weather Observer, a service he provided to the communities for nearly 30 years. In l997, he was the recipient of the John Campanius Holm Award for outstanding contributions to the National Weather Services' Cooperative Observer Program and his community.

He was a long-time member and supporter of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia where he and his wife were members of the Super Kids Kitchen Band, the Golden Circle of Fellowship, and the Super Sixties Group. He was a current faithful member and of the Community Baptist Church in Dover, the AARP, the Senior Friends' Fellowship, the Christian Businessmen's Committee, and an honorary life member of the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Joanna (Steven) Bowyer of Pasadena, TX; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Cronebach, of New PhiladelphiaIn addition to his parents and his wife, five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Cremation will be under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.

A memorial service to honor Frank and his wife, Mary, will be conducted by Chaplain, David Rodweller on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at 11:00 AM. Friends may call on the family at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service. A luncheon at the Geib Family Center will follow the service.
