Henry was the son of Charles "Karl" Beer, Sr. and Caroline Frey. The family lived in Calhoun County, Illinois.

Henry's father, Charles, was a native of Germany who was wounded in the American Civil War. He served with Company A of the 11th Illinois Infantry and with Company B of the 8th Illinois Infantry.

When Henry was 10-years-old, his father became a resident of the Illinois Soldiers Home in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. He died there in 1905. Henry's mother died of heart disease in 1934.

Henry lived with his brother, Charles Beer, when the 1910 census was taken. He worked as a farm hand.

Henry married Mrs. Evling Davis on 28 Oct 1916 in Calhoun County. [Spelling of her given name taken from Calhoun County marriage records.] They were still married in 1918, but, by 1930, he lived with his brother, John, and his family. Henry gave his marital status as "single" on the 1930 census.

Tragedy struck in late 1933 when Henry's brother, John, was killed in a car wreck. He and several others were riding in a car driven by John's father-in-law when it skidded on the ice and crashed. John died of head and abdominal injuries.

In the late 1950's, Henry became a patient at Montreat Nursing Home in Hardin, Illinois. He lived there for the final 16 months of his life until he died at the nursing home at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 12 days.

He was survived by 1 sister, Lillie Hamilton of Fieldon, Illinois; 1 brother, August Beer of Hamburg, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by 1 sister, Lena; and 4 brothers, Charles, Herman, George and John.
