Joan C. Higgins, 65, of Sycamore, III., passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002. at her home. Born March 5, 1937, in DeKalb, she was the daughter of Edwin M. and Catherine M. (Hannan) Anderson. Joan married Bud Higgins on Sept 27, 1958, in DeKalb. Joan was employed at DeKalb Ag for 45 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore and was the St. Mary's School secretary for several years, a Hospice volunteer, a former member of the DeKalb Women's Bowling Association and was secretary for several years. Joan and Bud were scorekeepers at Bob-Jo Speedway in Sycamore on weekends for 10 years. She is survived by her husband, Bud; a daughter, Marcy (Tom) Ulrich of DeKalb; nine special grandchildren, Rhonda, Todd, Jodi, Carri, Ted, Kelly, Scott, Adam and Connor; several great-grandchildren; her mother, Catherine Anderson of DeKalb; a brother, Tom (Judy) Anderson of DeKalb; a special sister, Sally; numerous cousins; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. at the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore with Fr. Frank J. Timar M.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow the service at Alton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. A Spiritual Wake Service will be recited at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
