This is all that remains of Franklin Cemetery. The Town of Franklin was established in 1853 and no longer exists. The cemetery was started first then the town followed. Franklin started as a stage stop on the California Trail. Pioneers that died and were buried here, caused their relatives to stay to be near them.

My Great Grandfather John Wesley Williams & Amanda Jane [Williams] Williams, moved to the Lawrence area in 1855. The 1870 census showed they lived in Wakarusa Township where Franklin, Cemetery is located. His occupation was a farmer & blacksmith, so I'm sure he worked at the Franklin, Ks. Stage Stop. They lost a 5 Year old Son in 1870.
