William Curtis Dolby was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, along with his twin brother, Clyde Wright Dolby, to Amaniah Clarence Dolby and Lottie Mae [Means] Dolby. Known as 'Willie' and later 'Bill', he went to work at an early age after the death of his father when he was 12. On 6 August 1935, he married Florence Elizabeth Marshall at Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana, and they became the parents of ten children. In 1943, he came north to work the farms in Clinton and Carroll Counties as part of the U.S. Agriculture Department's 'Crop Corps Program', and made their residence in the small town of Beard. In 1954, he and his family moved to a home along Ind. Hwy. 26, East of Sedalia, where he remained for 28 years. From the early 1950's, he was employed at National Homes in Lafayette, retiring in 1975. One final move just a year before his death was to a home just East of Rossville, Indiana, where he died. He was survived by eight of his children and 24 of 26 grandchildren. Burial was at Rossville Cemetery.
