Morris Chipps moved with his wife and children from Morris County New Jersey and moved to a farm owned by his son in law Abram Hart who was married to his daughter Sarah and had moved to Indiana earlier. The children report they walked most of the way.

Morris' father was also named Morris Chipps who served in the Revolutionary War. This Morris Sr was the son of John Chipps and Jannette (maiden name believed to be Lane) of NY and NJ by 1740. Morris Chipps Sr is said to be buried at Budd Lake Cemetery in NJ (no such cemetery has yet been found)

Some children from this couple headed west for MO and beyond in the 1850's

An uncle also came ahead of Morris to this area, his name was Andrew Dunham Rose.

Morris mother was Sarah Denton Ross Chips. She couldn't read nor write.
