The daughter of Seigel Carter "Sig" Holloway and Elma F. Johnston, Mary graduated from Hardin High School in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. She earned a B. S. degree in business economics from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois.

Mary married Chapman Gevert Meyer on 09 Jun 1956 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin.

Mary and Chapman lived in Florissant, St. Louis County, Missouri after their marriage. She was a homemaker, and they were the parents of 5 children.

Mary developed phlebothrombsis (vein inflammation caused by a blood clot) in her legs. Blood clots then traveled to her lungs, and she went into shock, which resulted in her death 30 hours later at St. John's Mercy Hospital at the age of 31 years, 1 month and 17 days.

She was survived by her husband; 4 daughters; 1 son; her mother, Elma McLane of Eldred, Illinois; 2 brothers, Jack Holloway of Hardin, and Philip Holloway of Alton, Illinois; and 1 sister, Betty Worthy of West Virginia.

Visitation was held at Florissant Mortuary in Florissant on 01 Aug 1964. Funeral services were conducted at St. Dismas Church in Florissant at 9:30 a.m. on the morning of 03 Aug 1964. Burial was at St. Norbert's Catholic Cemetery in Hardin, Illinois.
