Oldest child of James Abercrombie Sr and Hannah Pickard. James was born in Scotland about 1709 and came to America with wife, Hannah Pickard and several children. They were part of a colony of Jacobites along with the Hastings, Blackwells, Blakes, Dials and Lord and Lady McDonald. They probably settled first in Maryland, later Virginia, then North Carolina. About 1765, they moved to Laurens District, SC, where the younger children were born.
Rebecca married Hastings about 1768 and they had 8 children. Her will was proved 18 July 1825, Laurens Co, Will Book EE, pp 511-512 (Box 18, pkg 11).
Note: James Abercrombie Sr was NOT a son of James and Mary (Gordon) Abercromby. They had two sons named James. One died in childhood and the other died in Russia without issue.
