Mr. Hezekiah "H. K." Dowdy, 88, of Blakely Hall, Elon died peacefully at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Burlington on Thursday, November 17, 2005 after a period of declining health.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of the late Helen Allene Ellington Dowdy and the son of Pete Dowdy and Mattie Lemons Dowdy, both deceased. He was retired after 39 years of service as a tool maker with AT&T and was a member of the Almance County Wildlife Club. A member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church, he was a lifelong deacon, usher, and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: one daughter, Anne Rice, of Durham; one grandson, Brian Rice, of Holly Springs; and a special friend and companion, Betty Ellington, of Graham.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Louise Wheeley, L. L. Dowdy, Hallie McGhee, Fannie Melton, Dellia Dowdy, and Robert Dowdy.
The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Jimmy L Nicholston and Rev. Dr. Donovan Drake. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Saturday, November 19, 2005 from 6 - 8 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence of Betty Ellington.
