Funeral Held Today
Funeral services for Matt. M. David, well-known Shieldsville township resident, were held this morning, Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Canice Catholic church in Kilkenny. Rev. Joseph Bender officiated at the Mass of Requiem. Interment was in the Trebon cemetary. The pallbearers were Boniface David, Ervin Bilek, Kenny Schleis, Glenn David, Walter David & Gerald Drevlow.
Mathias M. David, a son of the late Jacob and Catherine Kukacka David, was born in Shieldsville township on April 24, 1880. He attended the Trebon school.
On October 31, 1901, he was united in marriage to the former Emma Adamek in Minneapolis. Following their marriage the couple took up their residence on the home farm where they lived until the present time. Mr. David was a member of the St. Canice church in Kilkenny.
Death came at the family farm home at 5;40 a.m. Monday February 16, at the age of 78 years. Mr. David had been in poor health since November of last year. He underwent surgery at the Abbot hospital on December 2.
He is survived by hi wife; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Mayme) Bilek of St. Paul; Mr. Arnold (Emily)
Schleis of Montgomery and Mrs. Kurt (Helen) Drevlow of Faribault; four sons, James C., Michael P., and John G. of Kilkenny and Benjamin David of Hopkins; 30 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Antonette) Chicora of Glendale, California; tawo half-sisters, Mrs. Albert ( Christine) Edel and Mrs. John (Albina) Budin of Montgomery; and one half-brother, Jacob David of Kilkenny.
One son Rudolph, died of wounds in Germany on March 29, 1945, during WWII. Another son, Matthew died at the age of 3 years and one son died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and James David and five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Filipek, Mrs. John (Anna) Filipek, Christine and Emily David and one sister who died in infancy and one half-sister, Mrs. Rose Bartholomew.
