Fred Bend Jr., 84, of Waterman, IL passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, IL. He was born on April 15, 1919 in rural Waterman, the son of Fred R. and Grace (Merritt) Bend. He married Dorothy Marie Heyer on February 12, 1949 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Hinckley, IL.
Fred was a life long Waterman area farmer. He attended the Waterman Bible Church and was a member of the De Kalb County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Becky) Bend of Waterman, Ruth (Bill) Huddlestun of Oswego, IL, Karen (Chauncey) Watson of De Kalb, Brian (Phyllis) Bend of Pontiac, IL, and Janice (Brett) Bargamian of Arlington Heights, IL; ten grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Stephen, Jeffery, Chauncey IV, Leah, Alex, Matthew, Dale, and Diana; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Asher; several dear nieces and nephews; and many life long friends from childhood.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1990; his parents; four brothers, Robert, Donald, Dale and LaVerne Bend; and two sisters, Esther Bend and Helen Lembcke.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Anderson Funeral Home in De Kalb, with Pastor Kitty Ganzel of the First United Methodist Church in De Kalb, officiating. Burial will follow services at North Clinton Cemetery in Waterman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home.
