Effie A. Baer, 77, of North Lima, Ohio, formerly of Kalona, died Thursday, December 20, 2007, following a four-year battle with cancer.
Services were Thursday, December 27, in North Lima Mennonite Church, North Lima, Ohio. Burial was in the North Lima cemetery. (now Mount Olivet Cem.)
Born February 23, 1930 in Kalona, she was the daughter of Lewis and Magdalena (Hershberger) Ropp.
She was united in marriage to Harold Baer, January 1, 1959.
Mrs. Baer was a homemaker and an avid quilter. She also worked part-time in the Das Dutch Haus Restaurant and Barth Farms. More recently she served as a janitor at North Lima Mennonite Church.
She was an active member of the North Lima Mennonite Church where she served on many committees.
Survivors include her husband Harold Baer, two daughters, Gloria and husband Ed Wilson of New Springfield, Ohio and Marlene and husband Gerald Witmer of Poolesville, Maryland; two sons, Gareth and wife Karla Baer of North Lima and Arnold Baer of Columbiana, Ohio; five sisters, Lydia and husband Alvin Gingerich, Martha Bender, Verda and husband Bill Swartzendruber, Edith and husband Paul Helmuth all of Kalona, Ada and husband Ivo Gingerich of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother, Vernon and wife Mary Elva Ropp of Kalona; nine grandchildren, Bob and wife Kristy Wilson and Heather and Nick Shaulis of New Springfield, Ohio, Ryan, Austin, Kayla and Leana Witmer of Poolesville, Maryland, Lauren, Landon and Logan Baer of North Lima; three great-grandchildren, Lydia and Robby Wilson and Alaina Shaulis all of New Springfield.
Her parents; two brothers, Omer and Ernest Ropp; and three sisters, Ella Mae, Mary Jane and Esther Ropp, preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established for the North Lima Mennonite Church or MVI Hospice.
