In the 1850 U.S. Census, Zaccheus was living in Baltimore City, Maryland, and he was an "attorney at law." He had $20,000 worth of real estate. In the 1860 U.S. Census, the widowed Martha was living in Baltimore, Maryland, with her children, Richard and Mary.
"At eight minutes before 5 o'clock this morning, at his residence in the city of Baltimore, in the 54th year of his age, the Hon. Zaccheus Collins Lee, Judge of the Supreme Court of that city. This melancholy event will sadden many hearts in Washington, where Judge Lee had long resided before his removal to Baltimore. He was a gentleman of high integrity and honor, of a kind heart, of fine talents, and had acquired an extensive reputation as an eloquent and effective public speaker. For some months before his death, his health had been impaired; but the immediate illness which proved fatal was of only a few days' duration. He has been taken from us in the prime of life, and in the midst of a career of public usefulness, to the deep affliction of his bereaved family and friends, and the regrets of the community of which he was an esteemed and honored member."
The Evening Star, 29 Nov 1859
The Funeral of Judge Lee was largely attended in Baltimore yesterday, and the remains were brought to this city for interment in the Congressional cemetery. Judge Lee prior to his death expressed a desire to be buried by the side of his mother in this cemetery and the request has been complied. The remains were accompanied to this city by the Rev. Dr. Cummins of Baltimore (formerly of Trinity church in this city) by whom the funeral services were performed.
