Frank W Clark, 89, one of Amsterdam's well-known retired business men, died Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at his home, 18 Jackson Street, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Clark was born in Phoenix, NY., April 22, 1853, a son of John Clark and Matilda Post, and when 17 years old come to this city, where he resided for several years. He then moved to Stillwater, where he learned the trade of carpenter and was employed as a clerk. In 1876 he married Sarah Wescott before he returned to Amsterdam, where he started a grocery business at the corner of Division and Bayard Streets. After operating his business for a number of years, Mr. Clark moved to the corner of Guy and Division Streets, where he was located until his retirement in 1918.
A devout Christian, Mr. Clark was one of the founders of the Pentecostal Rescue Mission, which later became the Pilgrim Holiness Mission on Division Street His main interest, outside of his home and family, was in church and Philanthropic activities. Mrs. Clark died in 1938.
Surviving are three sons, Harvey of Amsterdam, Chester of Utica and Master Sargent Earl Clark, Drew Field, Tampa Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Rink, this city and Mrs. Nathan Fonda, Randall, and several nieces and nephews.
