Samuel A. Ormsby, Citizen Here for 30 Years, Is Dead
Samuel A. Ormsby, 102 Leonard avenue, died at Presbyterian hospital at 1:55 a.m. Sunday , after several weeks' illness. Mr. Orsmby, known as "Uncle Sam," was born at Castorland, N.Y., in 1859. He came to Waterloo 40 years ago engaging in the laundry business.
Mr. Ormsby operated the Chautauque hand laundry 20 years, after which ill health compelled him to retire. He built Park Side sanatorium, formerly known as Park Side hotel, in 1910. During the past few years he had been connected with the management of the Plaza theatre. He was united in marriage 20 years ago to Miss Nina Freeland, Waterloo, who survives him.
Three daughters by a former marriage, arrived here last night. They are Mrs. Hazel Pellard, Lead, S.D.; Mrs. Olive Randall and Mrs. Helen Beckwith, both of Beatrice, Neb. Three brothers, A.F., Charles and Frank Ormsby, and five grandchildren also survive. Private funeral services will be at the home at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. V. C. Kelford, pastor of Burton Avenue Baptist church, in charge. A request has been made that no flowers be sent.
