He was the son of Noadiah Russell and Esther Talcott.
He studied theology and was settled as pastor of a church in Princeton, Mass. Compelled by severe and protracted illness to leave the work of a parish minister, he engaged in mercantile life in Troy, N.Y. After several years thus employed he retired to Milford, Conn. The latter part of his life was spent in Ellington.
