Mary Ellen Caskey, daughter of Silas and Elizabeth Brock Caskey, was born on November 20, 1856, near Sandusky, Ohio and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elza Graves near Princeville, Illinois, on August 11, 1937, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 22 days.
When about four years of age, she came with her parents to West Jersey, Illinois, where she lived for about ten years. The family then moved to a farm near Kirksville, Mo. In the 1885 she moved to Winona, Minnesota, where in the spring of 1888 she married to Oliver Gard. About twenty-two years ago, with her husband and two daughters, she came to Duncan, Ill.
Her husband died at Duncan on January 22, 1918. For the past fourteen years she has made he home with her daughter, Mrs. Graves.
Mrs. Gard was the last surviving member of the family of 13 children.
Her husband having preceded her in death, she is survived by her two daughters Mrs. Evelyn Calef of Brimfield and Mrs. Grace Graves of Princeville, IIL; also one step-daughter, Mrs. Augusta Meilicke, Chicago, Ill. and one step-son, Oliver Gard of Redwing Minnesota. These, together with six grandchildren and a very large number of other relatives remain to mourn her departure
