Virginia Mae Lester, 84, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. A Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Glenn Hilburn officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room.

Virginia Mae was born in Wynona, Okla., to the late Benjamin Daniel and Bessie Mae Lewis. She graduated from Wynona High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University. She received her Montessori Training while employed by the Waco ISD at J.H. Hines Elementary School. She was a teacher in the WISD school system for over 20 years - touching many lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dr. E. Russell Lester; her father, Benjamin D. Lewis; mother, Bessie Mae Merrill; a sister, Jean Hurd; and brothers, Ray G. Lewis and Charles James Lewis.

Virginia is survived by her son, Byron Kyle Lester and his wife, Leann, of Waco; daughter, Melinda Lester Brown, of Newport Beach, Calif., grandchildren Kyle, Brandi, Randi, Chance and Clay Lester, and Luke, Perry and Claire Brown; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Holt and husband, Keith, Charlene Kneisel and husband, Harvey, and Agnes Walker and husband, Robert; brothers, Edward Lewis, B. D. Lewis, Paul Lewis and wife, Gaye, and Doug Lewis and wife, Fran; and numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
