Bath School Disaster Victim

Iola was the daughter of Eugene and Irene Hart. She was twelve years old and in the sixth grade. Her plans for the future was to become a nurse or music teacher. She was a good pianist. When younger, she once said, "Mama, when I get my diploma, I'm going to pick beans." Iola was very affectionate and always kissed her mother good-bye. On the morning of the school bombing, she said, "Now Mama, don't worry if I don't come home at noon." Her mother asked, "Why do you say that?" She replied, "You know I have got to write tests this morning and I might faint away!" She then went and picked a bouquet of lilacs on her way to school. Iola was one of 45 people killed (along with her brother and sister) when her school was bombed by a disgruntled employee. It remains as the worst attack upon a school in the history of the United States.
