Fifteen more enlistments in the U S Navy two of them men were received at the local Navy Recruiting Station during the past week The men all ed final examinations and were accepted at the St Louis ing station William Kent Dowding 722 West Coates Street and William Solomon Saylor 461 East Rollins were the Dowding son of Mr and Mrs William P Dowding of Cairo enlisted in Class as an Aviation Cadet while Saylor husband of Mrs Edna Alberta Saylor enlisted in Class as a Fireman Billie Allen Spence son of Mr and Mrs James Hayes Spence route 4 Salisbury enlisted in Class George Warren Gregory Keytesville husband of Mrs ma Olive Gregory of Kansas City enlisted as a Yeoman third class Others Warner Eugene Smith Hamden Mo Charles ward Davis and Harold Dee Lapp both of Macon Earl Rigg Glasgow Russell Owen Elgin Robert Russell Brown Nolan Freeman Henage all of Mexico Edmand Roscoe Farber Denton Leo Steele Glenn Arthur Nelson and Harold Leroy Wheeler all of Kirksville

Dr. William Kent Dowding, 90, passed quietly and peacefully, into the arms of our Lord on March 16, 2014 from complications of a stroke. Ken was born August 16, 1923, to Willard and Viola Dowding, in Jacksonville, Missouri, the youngest of four children. He at-tended Moberly Junior Col-lege where he met his wife and best friend Betty (Nee Carter). They were married on June 2, 1944. He was a Naval Aviator in the Asian theatre during WWII. After the war, he entered the Vet-erinary Medicine program at Iowa State University, graduating with honors in 1951.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; two sons, Alan (Rosie), Paul (Cindy); four grandchildren, Sara Besch (David), Emily, Jessie, and Tia. He was pre-ceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Paul; and two sisters, Marjorie (Agee) and Audrey (Lenhart).

A Memorial service will be held at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014.
