Mr. Carlson was born March 19, 1919, in Rockford, IL, a son of the late Hjalmer and Gertrude (Peterson) Carlson. He was married to Nona Taplin on Nov. 22, 1941, in Rockford. She died May 26, 1986. He later was married to Mildred Pratt on June 20, 1987, in Plainfield.
He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He owned and operated the Standard Service Station and Laundromat in Plainfield for many years. He later was employed at Tri-County Schools in the technical education department. He was a life member of Waushara Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6007 and a member of United Methodist Church in Plainfield and the Plainfield Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, Plover; one son, James (Kathy) Carlson, Florida; one daughter, Mary (Michael) Ryan, Madison; three stepdaughters, Catherine (Richard) Jorgensen, Wisconsin Rapids, Barbara Arendt, Plainfield, and Margaret (Thomas) Guth, Bancroft; one granddaughter; seven stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
