On March 1st, 1879, he was married to Jane Afford. To this union were born four sons and two daughters, a son and daughter passing on in infancy. The other son accidentally lost his life at the age of 17.

Coming to Thayer county 41 years ago, he lead a missionary life, preaching at Reynolds, Hubbell, Byron and Deshler, not for a salary but to fulfill the will of the Heavenly Father.
Thirteen years later as his health failed him, he lost the use of a limb. he then began helping the sons on the farm, until last April 29 when a stroke of paralysis left him helpless, he only being able to use his right arm. At that time he was at the home of his son, Walter Alloway. Since June 23 he visited with his son, James Alloway.
Through patient suffering he endured much in spite of the tender care given him by the loving ones of the home, who tried to brighten his last hours.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Kelly, pastor of the Methodist church, in the Hill chapel and burial at Alexandria Sunday.
