Boniford Hargrove, son of L. B. and Sarah Duncan Hargrove was born in Monrovia Kansas, April, 1871. His mother died when he was two, and he lived with family friends until his father remarried. He was farming for himself when he was 15, on the Osborn farm, one mile north of Effingham. In December, 1893 he married Florence Grable and they stayed on this farm until 1897. Their two sons, Bonny Otho and Leroy Jennings were born there. Leroy died in 1935. Otho is a retired farmer now living in Effingham. He and his wife Ella Scott from Sheridan, Mo., farmed 4 miles south of town; the farm is now owned by Junior Hoffman. Their children are Mrs. Leroy (Eileen) Bishop), Houston; Mrs. Laurence (Nadine) Kansas City, has two sons and a daughter; and Mrs. Darlene Trompeter, Topeka, one daughter.
