Skeeter Bonn (Junior Lewis Boughan)-

He was a singer and guitar player on several national country music radio programs and had several singles on RCA Victor in the 1950s. He was known as the "pickin' and singing' boy". He was born in 1923 in Sugarville, a small settlement in Fulton County, Illinois. At age 13 he left the family farm for nearby Canton. He joined the United States Navy in 1942, married Mary Louise Strode of Canton in 1945, and received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946. He won a singing championship in Illinois in 1949, and by 1951 he was on the Iowa Barn Dance Frolic on WHO (AM) in Des Moines, Iowa. After that he was a regular on the WLS National Barn Dance from Chicago, WLW Midwestern Hayride from Cincinnati, and WWVA Jamboree from Wheeling, West Virginia. In addition to his ten or so singles on RCA Victor, he also had a single on Sims Records, #325 "Let Me Be The One", backed with "Off To Vietnam (In The Green)".

CANTON -- Junior "Skeeter" Boughan, 71, of 404 Rudolf, Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Canton, died Sunday morning, Nov. 6,

1994, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville.

Born May 6, 1923, in Canton to Archie L. and Mabel Davis Boughan, he married Mary Louise Strode on Dec. 31, 1945, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Terry of Canton, Garry of Bloomington and Ricky of Indianapolis; one brother, James E. of Canton; two sisters, Veda Rupp and Elsie Arterburn, both of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. One son, Randy, one brother and one sister also preceded him in death.

He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Hope hospital ship.

He was a country-western singer on several stations, including WBYS in Canton, WHO in Des Moines, Iowa, WLS National Barn Dance in Chicago, WLW Radio and TV in Cincinnati and WWVA in Wheeling, W.Va. He recorded on the RCA Victor label. He was a member of a musicians union.

He was a member of Lockeland Baptist Church in Nashville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. The Rev. Dr. Larry Campbell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
