John Groze Bellamy was the son of Asa Bellamy and Katherine Elizabeth Yarbrough. His parents died when he was about 20 years old, when still considered a minor. On 16 Feb 1860, he married Destimonia W. Brown in Franklin County, Georgia. They had a son, James D. Bellamy born 25 Dec 1860. Destimonia and their infant daughter died in November 1866.
The following year, John married Martha Saphrona Williams Shannon, the widow of Private Thomas Earl Shannon who died on 01 Dec 1862 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia during the Civil War. They had five children: Elizabeth Cathy, Thomas W., Mary J., Harriet C., and Asa N. Bellamy.
John served in Co. B 29th Regt. GA volunteers.
