East Fairfield - Avis Charlotte (Wanzer) Dodd, 91, a lifelong resident of East Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 12, 2011 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with her family at her side.

Avis was born on June 20, 1920 in Fairfield, the daughter of Allen and Edith (Abel) Wanzer.

She was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and a 1937 graduate of Johnson Normal School. Her marriage to Kenneth C. Dodd took place on June 16, 1942. He predeceased her on February 11, 2005.

Following her graduation, Avis taught in one room schools including Gould Hill School in Fairfield and Chester A. Arthur School in North Fairfield. After Avis stopped teaching, she devoted her life to raising her family and working on the family farm.

Avis especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as gardening, canning and sewing.

Surviving are her children Edith Dimick and her husband James of Bow, NH and Dennis Dodd and his wife Linda of East Fairfield; 4 grandchildren Laura Dimick Bonner, Susan Dimick Stone, Erica Dodd Steiner and Justin Dodd; 2 great grandchildren Ian Bonner and Mason Dodd; a sister Florence Wanzer Beard of Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Avis was predeceased by 2 brothers Glenfred and Reuben Wanzer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, at 10:00 AM at the United Church of Bakersfield and Fairfield, 54 East Bakersfield Rd. in Bakersfield with the Rev. Lyle M. Miller, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg. Friends are invited to call at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, gifts in Avis' memory may be made to the Bent Northrop Memorial Library, 164 Park St., Fairfield, VT 05455.
