Of special interest is the old Guthriesville Schoolhouse on Horseshoe Pike, now in use (1991) as the township building of East Brandywine Township in Chester County.
In this two-room schoolhouse, Bertha Letitia McCausland taught the elementary school on the first floor, and Walter Thereof taught the high school on the second floor. After many faculty meetings, they were married in her parents' home in Lyndell, just up the road. Among their pupils were quite a few McCausland nieces and nephews, including Jack, Eddie, and Eleanor McCausland and a namesake, Bertha Letitia McCausland. Alan McCausland (son of Jack) currently presides over the East Brandywine Township Board of Supervisors in the building.
Also of note is the fact that a large number of John McCausland's progeny, spanning 5 generations, still reside in the Downingtown area of Chester County. The frequent occurrence of sister-brother combinations marrying other neighborhood sister-brother pairs, while unusual, is probably due to the sparse population in the area in the early days.
