Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War first as Major of the 171st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel and commander of the 207th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on April 2, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services at Forts Stedman and Sedgwick, Va."
