Alfred Deane Urbanek, the son of Frank Henry and Mary Eleanor (Bartunek) Urbanek, was born June 19, 1925 at Ellsworth, KS and died July 26, 2012 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 7 days.

Deane attended school at Ellsworth. He enlisted in the Army and served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Ellsworth. On December 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to Donna Neal at Russell, KS. Deane drove a truck for a while before going to work for Northern Natural Gas in Bushton, KS. He and Donna moved to Oakland, where Deane continued to work for Northern Natural Gas and drove a truck in his spare time. After Deane retired from Northern Natural Gas, he drove a truck for Schueman Trucking for several years. Deane lived in Oakland until the time of his death. Deane enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and dancing. He was active in the V.F.W.

He is preceded in death by his wife Donna; his parents; his sister Frances Moore; his brother Roland Urbanek; and his brother-in-law, Gary Neal.

Deane is survived by his children: Bonnie Urbanek of Omaha, NE, Vickie Urbanek of Modesto, CA, and Troy Urbanek of Oakland, IA; his brothers: Frank Del Urbanek of Topeka, KS, Victor Urbanek and wife Betty of Azle, TX, Benjamin Urbanek and wife Wanda of Henderson, KY, and Keith Urbanek and wife Julie of Wichita, KS; his sister Phyllis Ogburn and husband Don of Lawrence, KS; his brother-in-law George Moore of Ellsworth, KS, Marvin Neal and wife Vada of Warrensburg, MO; his sisters-in-law Linda Billips and husband Layton of Bogue, KS, Lois Urbanek of Carbondale, KS, and Wanda Neal of Pueblo, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. An open visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation with the family will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
