PACIFIC GROVE - Ronald E. Graddy, 62, of Pacific Grove, died on Monday,
January 4, 2010.
Ron was born on June 7, 1947 in
Andersen, Indiana. After high school, he joined the Army and retired in 1991 as a Sergeant First Class with 22 years of service. His assignments included a tour in Vietnam, Germany, and the Presidio of Monterey where he was the non-commissioned officer in charge of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Public Affairs Office. Ron then worked for 16 years as a civilian on the Presidio where he was the Chief of Child and Youth Services. He was also a member of the Fort Ord Retiree Council. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Niceville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family is
requesting that donations be made to the U.S.
Veterans Hospice Committee, P.O. Box 96170,
Washington, DC 20090-6170. Ron and his family also lived in Germany, Holland, and Japan, his dad retired to Niceville, Florida, and Ron graduated from Choctahatchee High School in 1965, He married Joan, right after he joined the army and was sent on a tour to Vietnam during the height of the Tet Offensive, Ron by law was not to be sent to a combat area because he was the only son of an only son of an only son and the only one left to carry on the Graddy name. Ron and I were very close when we were growing up after his parents retired to Niceville. I was with his mom when aunt Mona died and also with his father soon after he died in his sleep, and had to call Ron both times. Hope this helps out..................Darrell
