He is the son of Mr. Harry D. & Mrs. Miriam {Weed} Bethel of Bartonville, Illinois, and he is a 1968 graduate of Limestone H.S., and was in the Army a short time later. He served the bulk of his time in the Army in Vietnam. Besides his parents, he leaves three sisters, Miss Cheryl, Miss Marsha, and Miss Carol Bethel, all at home.

Awards: Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with Four Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal.
