Son of William Lawrence. Attended Kenyon College. Studied Law in Cambridge Ohio and then moved to Cleveland. Nominated in 1883 by the Democratic party for attorney general and won in 1883 and 1885. Married Jennie Gardner Porter in 1886 and had three children; Harriet, Keith and Margaret. Corporate council for the city of Cleveland. Law professor at Western Reserve University. Common Pleas Judge. Died while on vacation in Brookside, West Virginia.
