Jude Galles, 91, of Remsen, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Thomas J. Hart and Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating, assisted by Deacon Allan Weiler. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The Fisch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Galles was born February 3, 1909, at rural Remsen, the son of John and Mary (Smith) Galles. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen.

He married Bernice Plathe on November 27, 1934, at Granville, Iowa. They made their home near Remsen, where they farmed, until moving into Remsen in 1946. He was a mechanic for Ritz Super Service and Cambier Motor Co. in Remsen prior to his purchase of the J. I. Case farm-implement dealership in Remsen, which he operated for many years.

Bernice died May 15, 1998.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, past member of the Lions Club, past president of the Remsen Chamber of Commerce, and past member and partner in the Remsen Gun Club. In his earlier years he was a member of the town baseball team.

Surviving are four sons, Gary of Remsen, Dale of Cherokee, Iowa, Darrell and his wife Chris McDevitt of St. Augustine, Fla., and Tim and his wife Deb of Marcus, Iowa; three daughters, Patricia Merrick and JoAnn and her husband Bob Joyce, both of Omaha, Nebr., and Christy and her husband Steve Pick of Remsen; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Wagner of Le Mars; and a sister-in-law, Armella Galles of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hilary, Alphonse, and Louis; and two sisters, Lenora Raher and Armella Heidesch.

Casket bearers were Shawn Galles, Barry Joyce, and Christian, John, and Michael, and Timmy Merrick.

Knights of Columbus honorary pallbearers were Duane Majeres, Don Konz, Dick Boever, Sylverius Schroeder, Gilbert Schroeder, and Lorne Nilles.
