He was born April 18, 1952, in Poynette, the son of Marvin and Genevieve Achterberg Bortz. He retired from Meriter Hospital in 2009. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, joy-riding and spoiling his best friend, Roscoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, M. Wayne Bortz; nephew, Steven J. Nelson; father-in-law, Richard "Duke" Brisky; and niece, Stacy L. Brisky.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hamre Funeral Home in Lodi, with the Rev. Scott Walters officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of TLC at the University of Wisconsin Transplant Clinic.
