Charles W. Bardwell was born on Febuary 27, 1876, about one mile east of Edenville along the Meridian line. These were the times when Edenville was in it's lumbering heyday. Charles entered the lumbering business at the age of 14, and worked for Samuel Wilkinson, the foreman of the Al Eastman Lumber Company of Midland. He later worked at Curice. His entire time in the woods was spent as a teamster.

'Old timers of the woods and streams
Our sun set is drawing nigh,
And soon our stormy trails will end
A rainbow in the sky.
And to all our comrades gone before
It is the hope of mine
That we may meet beyond the River
In the shadow of the Pine'
