Born Nov. 11, 1917, in Pansy, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ida Susan (Shreve) Getz.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lee (Anderson) Getz; four sons, Herbert Getz of Burlington, Olie Getz Jr. of Waukegan, Ill., Wayne Getz of Capon Bridge and Keith Getz of Fort Ashby; two daughters, Irene Willis of Channelview, Texas, and Rebecca Creswell of Junction, Va.; two brothers, Ray Getz of Ridgeley and Harry Getz of Petersburg; one sister, Bessie Hedrick of Belington; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Aug. 14, at the Upchurch Funeral Home chapel, Fort Ashby, with interment in Lahmansville Cemetery.
