Russell and Ruth moved to Clinton in early 1923 from Albion. According to the local tax records, they did not own a home until sometime between 1926 and 1927. I believe they rented the house at 619 Jackson St. (Lot 8) when he arrived in Clinton and then bought it a few years later. My mother was born in 1922 and was raised in this home. Russell and Ruth Boyd still owned this home at the time of Russell's death in 1955.

Russell attended Albion College where he participated in baseball and track and "...was offered a chance to play with the Detroit Team; however pay at that time was minimal, and traveling conditions between games worse, so his parents discouraged him. He went to work for a clothing store in Albion and later returned to his home town and operated H.R. Boyd men's wear store from 1923 to 1944. He sold that in the early 40's and became Secretary and Treasurer of Clinton Machine, a new manufacturing company that opened in Clinton. He served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Santa Paula during World War I." (quote taken from a note written by his daughter, Alice Boyd DesErmia)
